As a small business owner, life can be extremely hectic. Itβs tricky to find the time for a proper vacation when running my dog treat business, Botanical Bones, so I set out to find a staycation spot near Asheville where my family could enjoy some wellness time away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.
When I stumbled upon The Horse Shoe Farm, I was so excited and immediately booked one of their lofts and made a reservation at The Silo Cookhouse.
We fell instantly in love with the peaceful setting when we arrived at the farm and immediately headed to the pool for a swim, soak in the hot tub, and sauna. After a relaxing morning, we checked into our luxuriously rustic loft, The Farmhouse Loft. Next we hit the game room (via a secret passage) where we got silly, listening to some records while playing multiple rounds of ping pong, pool and air hockey. While my husband and son took a nap, I explored the grounds by way of a quick bike ride past the pond and came back to get ready for dinner at The Silo Cookhouse.
We started our dining experience with the most delicious cocktails made with house-made juices. I'm pretty picky when it comes to cocktails, so I'm not exaggerating when I say the hibiscus margarita was perfection. The feast we had was straight out of a fairy tale. The long communal tables in the dining room made us feel right at home. We over-ordered because everything sounded too good not to try and were blown away by every single dish. Some favorites were the pork belly, beef tartare, market fish, and filet mignon. My mouth is still watering just thinking about it. My 8-year-old son was lucky enough to be escorted to the kitchen by the chef where he learned some house secrets, which he refused to share, along with not sharing the panna cotta.
There are so many little moments and special things that I enjoyed about our stay at the Horse Shoe Farm. Waking up to delicious fresh coffee, reading my book on the hammock, watching the horses graze, and enjoying the sunset from the hot tub with a glass of wine. It offered so much more than we ever could have hoped for with just a quick 30-minute drive from our home in West Asheville. I can't wait to visit again soon, and next time we'll have to bring our pup, Carnaby, along for the adventure.- Rachel Meyer | Botanical Bones
